I got my hands on the latest AOC AGK700 gaming keyboard and I wanted to share my review with you. The keyboard is fully mechanical with a great tactile feel to it. It has blue backlighting and a metal base. The keyboard feels sturdy and the keys are nice and responsive.

The gaming keyboard market is growing, and it’s not hard to see why. Gaming is a booming industry, and a keyboard is an essential piece of equipment. I’ve been using mechanical keyboards for over a decade, and in that time I’ve had the pleasure of using every popular keyboard out there. Mechanical keyboards have a ton of advantages over their rubber-dome counterparts. Mechanical keyboards are quieter, more durable, and generally easier to clean. Additionally, their mechanical switches are generally more responsive and have less audible noise, making them great for playing games.

In many ways, the keyboard has always been the most important part of any gaming system. Not only are there plenty of reasons to press keys, but we all worry about how well our keyboards are going to work. When it comes down to it, you are essentially paying for the keyboard. A good keyboard can make or break the experience while you’re in the game.

If you’re in the PC community, you may know AOC as a manufacturer of high-end gaming monitors, but the company is now expanding its business. AOC has just released a number of peripherals, including a Tournament-class mechanical gaming keyboard called the AGK700. They sent one to High Ground Gaming so we could take a look and give you an honest and unbiased review. This will help you see if this keyboard is right for your performance level.

Unpacking and handling quality

The AOC AGK700 is a full-size mechanical gaming keyboard. It is packaged in plastic with a protective cardboard and foam backing. Underneath the board, you’ll find a separately packaged magnetic leather wrist rest, a cap puller, four extra red caps (WASD) and a quick start guide.

The keyboard housing is made of elegant black aluminum. It has black keys and a large red chromatic volume knob in the center at the top. On the left side of the board are five programmable G-keys that can be assigned using the G-Tools software. The braided cable splits into two USB Type A inputs: one for the keyboard and the other as a pass-through to the USB port on the back of the board. It also has adjustable legs on the back to tilt it. The magnetic leather wrist rest is of particularly high quality.

Unfortunately, the multimedia keys are permanently illuminated in red. This, along with the red volume knob and red accents on the cable, make this neutral-colored card very color-oriented.

cannot compete with Cherry MX

The AGK700 they sent us has Cherry MX Blue switches, although you can also buy them with Cherry MX Reds. Cherry MX is considered one of the best brands of mechanical switches on the market (if not , at least). So it’s no surprise that every stroke on the AGK700 is a dream.

The basic design and usability is what really sets this keyboard apart. The keys are almost free of play, and the volume control feels nice. I enjoyed using it for both play and work.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed

The G-Tools software is one of the weakest points of the AGK700. It has everything it needs. You can control macros and enable game mode, but all of this is limited compared to offerings from companies like Corsair and Logitech. However, the sensitivity setting is quite advanced and you can choose from twelve lighting effects. All these functions can be assigned to one of five different profiles, which can be changed using the Mode button.

In addition, the software looks and feels outdated. For most people, however, this is enough to get the job done.

Should I use the AGK700?

Priced at $179.99, the AOC AGK700 can compete with some of the best mechanical gaming keyboards on the market. The SteelSeries Apex Pro, Razer Huntsman Elite and Corsair K100 are comparable in price. To AOC’s credit, the AGK700 has unparalleled build quality. Its construction was not without problems. In terms of performance, however, it lags behind the competition. The exposure and key mapping profiles in the G-Tools software seem outdated compared to similarly priced models.

Quality of processing

The AOC AGK700 is a keyboard with a very good design. Everything from the Cherry MX switches to the magnetic leather wrist rest is top quality, and the extra G-keys are a nice bonus. However, the G-Tools software is a bit limited in what it can do.

  • Cherry MX switches
  • Five keys G
  • Robust aluminium housing and high quality keys
  • The G-Tools software seems to be out of date
  • Limited game mode compared to similarly priced models.
  • Persistent red lights and accents may not meet all aesthetic requirements.
