It’s been nearly a year since Guild Wars 2 launched without any LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) inclusion, but the game’s community is pushing for change. This past weekend’s community event, Pride, saw players celebrating LGBT pride in-game and raising over $18,000 for charity.
This evening, a group of Guild Wars 2 players are celebrating Pride in-game and raising funds for charity. Starting at 10:00 PM EST, the players will be dressing up in rainbow colors and taking part in a virtual fundraiser for the Trans Lifeline. The event will be hosted by Twitch streamer and AKRacing supporter Xylox , and will consist of a dance party, bikini contest, and raffle for charity donations. The event will help raise money for the Trans Lifeline, a non-profit, crisis intervention service for LGBTQ youth.
The World of Guild Wars 2 (known as the Tyria) is a diverse realm, and the game is as diverse as its players. The region of Ascalon is home to the Charr, an aggressive race of cat-like barbarians who are dedicated to the rule of strength. In the city of Divinity’s Reach, you’ll find a group of humans who believe in equality and freedom. The Shiverpeaks region, home to the Norn race, is a mystical place filled with monsters and folklore. The point is, we all have different backgrounds and experiences, and Guild Wars 2’s world reflects that.
Theplayers of Guild Wars 2are hosting another pride event this weekend. Yesterday’s festivities may be over, but there’s still one more day to go today, June 27, at 5 p.m. EDT for NA players.
The ceremony will take place tonight at the Arch of the Lion on the Field of the Dead. Players wishing to participate in the event can enter LFG channels to congregate on multiple instances of the map. Fans are also encouraged to stream the event, volunteer, or simply spread the word and donate to Rainbow Railroad, a global nonprofit that helps LGBTQ+ people prevent state violence, transphobia, and homophobia against them.
